One of the Highest-Scoring Chianti Classico Reserva: 2017 Castello di Meleto Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG
In the heartland of Tuscany, on the hills of "Gaiole in Chianti,” atop of the mountain rests a Medieval Etruscan Castle called Castello di Meleto. For all Chianti lovers, this place is a must-visit. You will immediately fall in love with the authenticity, tradition, and picturesque views of this breathtaking estate. However, it's the wine that will have you coming back for more!
Castello di Meleto has conquered visitors' hearts with its superb beauty and deeply satisfying wines. Today we're bringing you one of these pieces of satisfaction. Here is the double 93-point 2017 Castello di Meleto Chianti Classico Riserva.
This pleasurable Chianti Classico Riserva opens up with aromas of red ripe fruits, wild berries, blood orange, spicy herbs, and mint. It's a medium-body wine full of grace and elegance with a deliciously complex and long finish accented with velvety tannins. This wine's non-stop charm will make you fall in love with its sophistication and grandeur.
The 2017 growing season in Chianti presented its challenges; however, it was "a good year for top wines like Gran Selezione and Riserva" according to Chianti winemaker Federico Cerelli. A lot of lower altitude vineyards in Chianti saw a loss of yields due to frost. Luckily for Castello di Meleto (and wine lovers like us), the majority of their vineyards are at higher altitude vineyards between 350 to 400 meters with certain peaks reaching 600 meters! Castello di Meleto produced one of their highest-scoring Chianti Classico Reserva's ever!
If it wasn't for the strategic placement of this castle in the 13th Century we might not have this delicious wine before us today. You see Castelo di Meleto was first mentioned in 1265 in a book named “Libro degli Estimi” (Book of Estimates) which means it must have been constructed sometime before then. The Italians knew that building castles hills tops provided a strategic geograpical advantage and were easier to defend. Without this geographical placement and the accompanying high-altitude vineyards, we might not have a chance to indulge in this bottle of liquid elegance.
Be ready to try the exuberant flavors of this double 93-point Chianti Classico Reserva that showered in tradition as well as history at just $24.95. That's nearly 30% off from the original price and the best price west of the Mississippi.
