From a 96pt Vintage (WA) where Pessac-Leognan was the star of the Left Bank, this is a wine to stockpile for both short and longer term drinking.
Located south of Bordeaux centre sits one of the appellation's finest gravel outcrops. Château La Garde is owned by Dourthe, a famous family negociant in Bordeaux since 1840. With the purchase of Ch. Belgrave in 1979 and Ch. La Garde in 1990, Dourthe has established itself as providing the gold standard in dry, white Bordeaux wine. La Garde is a special property because of the diversity of clay, sandy, and gravelly soils. At less than half the price of a more famous winery in the area, Ch. Pape Clement, this wine is a steal.
Reviews
This is the best white from here for me ever. Mangoes, lemons and lightly cooked apples. Full-bodied, layered and very, very long. Phenolic texture and focus. Love the finish of dried bitter lemons. Drink now or hold.~ 94pts JS
