    About the wine

Since 1951, the team at Nicolis has been producing world-class wine. The 2012 Nicolis Amarone della Valpolicella Classico perfectly embodies the tradition and expertise carried down from generation to generation. This wine transports you to the heart of the Valpolicella, rolling hills dominated by vineyards prevail as the Mediterranean lays in the foreground

After the grapes are selected and harvested, they are placed in small cases in dry, well-aired rooms. Allowing the grapes to dry naturally and gain an extraordinarily high concentration of sugars, glycerine, and aromas. After 3 months, the grapes are softly pressed. Due to the low temperature, the process of fermentation is long and slow; followed by a one-month maceration period. The wine is finally aged in medium-sized Slavonia oak barrels for 30 months. The wine spends another 8 months in bottle before release.

If you've never been to Italy, you don't have to spend hundreds on a plane ticket because this wine will take you there. After letting this wine decant for 45 minutes you'll be placed in the heart of Veneto sitting on your sundeck enjoying the afterglow of a majestic sunset.

Tasting notes: Deep dark ruby red which gradually turns into carnet. The powerful and aristocratic nose of ripe fruit, jam, sensations of cocoa, walnut, tobacco, and leather. Elegant and powerful wine with a distinct spicy bouquet and with unique flavors. It shows an impressive balance between volume and smoothness, warmth and crispness, austerity, and richness

    Reviews

A spicy Amarone with blackberry bush, dried brambleberries, blueberry tart, dried herbs, and vanilla. The palate shows layers of black cherries, which roll neatly over firm tannins through to a chewy finish. Good dryness and elegance, despite the intensity. Drink in 2021 ~92JS

The 2012 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a blend of 65% Corvina, 20% Rondinella, 10% Croatina and 5% Molinara that sees a shorter appassimento process than many of its peers. Shorter dehydration times were very common in the hot and dry 2012 growing season. It made little sense to continue drying fruit that had already lost some of its water mass on the vines. This wine is thick and darkly concentrated with spicy fruit flavors of red plum and prune. The fruit is dry and raisiny, leaving a trace of bitterness in the mouth. ~90RP
