You are not going to want to miss out on this extremely small production wine. The Cordella estate is run by Maddelena Cordella, who although has been growing grapes on-site since 1998, started producing her own wine in 2006. Currently, the house is only producing wine from just over 20 acres, with the 2019 Rosso di Montalcino coming from a mere 2-acre selection. The unique soils at her estate, allow Maddelena to produce wines with great depth and energy. Cordella's small production wines are loved by James Suckling along with the lucky few capable of obtaining these powerful wines. Don't miss this opportunity.
Maddelena produces her wine with an eye towards the future. The winery uses water conservation techniques and all of her grapes are grown organically. With just 20 acres of production area, you can rest assured that every vine is given individual care and attention. The entire vineyard is tended to by hand, and during harvest, only the best bunches are selected to be brought into the winery. Once in the winery, only native yeasts are used for fermentation.
The Rosso di Montalcino designation is intended to be a younger sibling of sorts to Brunello. The wines are meant to be consumed younger while your Brunello bottles rest in the cellar. Given the intentions above, these wines show a vibrant fruit-forward profile that over-delivers for their affordability.
Aging: This wine spends 8 months in Slovenian Oak barrels
Elegant, silky, and refined – this Baby Brunello swirls in an exotic mixture of raspberries, cherries, and baking spice, all touched with a bit of dustiness. Juicy acidity and silken-smooth tannins in the mouth make this a real pleasure to drink.
A medium, fruity red with berry, walnut, and hints of chocolate powder. It’s fresh and vivid. Drink now. ~91 James Suckling
