Pepper Bridge has an eye for the future. The winery is fully sustainable producing wine in a state-of-the-art facility that is entirely gravity-fed over three stories. It isn't all bells and whistles, the wine that they make is remarkable as well. At 7 years old, this wine is just starting to come out of its shell. This wine is ready to drink today, but will only improve over the next decade.
Pepper Bridge Winery represents the pioneering spirit of the Walla Walla Valley. Owned and operated by three families – the McKibbens, the Murphys, and the Pellets, the winery is a leader in quality winemaking, innovative technology and vineyard development. For over twenty years their hard work and dedication to the Walla Walla Valley has helped define it as one of the great wine regions of the world.
The summer of 2014 marked the warmest summer on record in the Walla Walla Valley. Spring was cool and dry, with bud break occurring right on time in mid-April. Once it started warming up, it didn’t stop. It was actually so warm during the month of July that the vineyard shut down and pushed the picking dates by 2 weeks. Despite the amount of heat units, meticulous work in the vineyard and precise picking dates enabled the winery to remain consistent with its elegant and balanced style.
Aging: 20 Months in 53% neutral, and 47% new French oak.
Tasting Notes: Cassis and framboise dominate the nose on this vintage. Exotic Moroccan spice leads to notes of black and blue fruit cobbler. Black currant is front and center on the palate, showing off the brightness of tart fruit with dark undertones, mingling with hints of eucalyptus. The harmonious combination of acidity and rich tannins give this wine a long finish that will stay with you long after you put down your glass.
This has an impressive tannin structure and depth. Bold chocolate and dark berries. Assertive yet polished. A class act. Drink or hold. ~92 James Suckling
Bright ruby-red. Slightly medicinal aromas of redcurrant, cherry, olive and spices, plus a leafy element; redder in its fruit character than the 2013 version. Graceful, generous Cabernet with lovely intensity to its redcurrant, plum and spice flavors enlivened by hints of menthol and herbs. Finishes with serious but harmonious tannins and rising length. Nicely balanced, fresh wine with good mid-term aging potential. ~91+ Vinous Media
Peppery Bridge's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon (83% Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller amounts of Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot) is a classic Cabernet that has lots of perfumed herbs, flowers, and darker currants and plum fruit. Rich, mouth-filling, and beautifully textured, like just about every 2014, it's already drinking nicely, yet it's going to keep for 15+ years. ~91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
