About the Wine

“Rioja is a great choice for people who enjoy both structure and elegance.” ~James Suckling

Nestled just 31 miles from the historic city of Logroño, this illustrious winery is set amidst 370 acres of pristine vineyards along the Ebro River. This exceptional setting, combined with the unique microclimate and clayey-calcareous soils, produces wines of unparalleled quality and character.

The true jewel of Marqués del Silvo lies in its vineyard. Cultivated at altitudes ranging from 560 to 700 meters, these vines thrive in poor, well-draining soils, yielding grapes of exceptional quality. The vineyards, graced by over 70-year-old bush vines of Tempranillo, Garnacha, and Graciano, are nurtured with unwavering dedication to environmental sustainability. This respect for nature and tradition is reflected in every bottle, ensuring each sip transports you to the heart of Rioja.Inside the winery, located between lush vineyards and majestic mountains, the magic happens. The 2015 Gran Reserva is aged for over five years in fine-grained French and American oak barrels, each imparting a unique blend of toasted and spicy nuances. This meticulous aging process results in a wine that is complex, elegant, and profoundly serious.

The Gran Reserva labeling in Rioja has stringent regulations on the amount of time that the wine spends both in barrels and in bottles prior to being released. This strict regulation gives us as consumers the opportunity to drink perfectly mature wines at their release.

Aging: in French medium toast and American medium toast oak barrels during 30 months + 24 months in bottle before release.

Tasting Notes: 100% Tempranillo. Bright garnet. Perfumed, slightly high-toned aromas of blackberry, licorice, wild herbs and elegant vanilla. Extremely long, with resonating sweetness, gently tannic and very long finish.

Reviews

Dark garnet in the glass, this wine has a nose of blackberry, dark chocolate and dried Mediterranean herbs. Black cherry and cassis flavors hit the tastebuds first and are followed up by notes of anise, Chambord and chocolate covered mint. Tannins slowly extend their influence on the palate, playing backup to a mélange of flavors that winds down to a soft finish marked with notes of cranberry and milk chocolate. ~93 Wine Enthusiast

Light garnet. Pronounced vanilla on the nose underpinned by jammy fruits and spices. Chiselled, powerful and nicely warm palate displaying a ripe array of aromas. Honed tannins and a fresh, strict finish. Strong personality. ~93 Gilbert & Gaillard

Aromas of ripe, mellow berries, dried herbs, dried orange peel and cocoa. Medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins and bright acidity. Balanced and polished with hints of red fruit and dried flowers. Firm finish. Drink or hold. ~91 James Suckling
