“Cabernet Franc is worthy of note, considering how well it does in high-altitude vineyards. Today, Latin America appears to be leading a new wave of cabernet franc with Mendoza at the epicenter of it.” ~ James Suckling.
2018 Zuccardi Poligonos Cab Franc San Pablo is a Cab Franc worthy of admiration. It is a wine made with love for the land, the people, the history, and the traditions of the region. The surname Zuccardi has a well-deserved reputation in the wine industry worldwide. This family is not only responsible for producing some of the best Argentinian wines, but they also have the best wine tourism experience in the entire world: For the third consecutive year, Zuccardi Valle de Uco has been named "The Best Vineyard in the World" by the recognized magazine and digital media company, William Reed Business Media.
This family business founded by engineer Alberto Zuccardi in 1963, has 6 different estates strategically placed in some of the best wine-growing areas of Mendoza. Today, it is directed by Sebastián Zuccardi, Alberto's grandson.
Sebastián is a visionary and innovative agronomist and winemaker who has made great strides and improvements since he took over the winery. Among other important achievements, he started and promoted a department of research and development that studies the terroir of the region, in order to better understand the land and improve the quality of their wines. Sebastian says: "We don’t look for perfect wines, but those that express the place, the region”.
The winery was built in 2013 and is a tribute to the majestic Andes mountains that surround it. Zuccardi Wines is sustainable in all aspects, from the vineyard to the cellar and even the architecture, where the construction is made with natural elements from the area. The wines are vinified in basins and amphoras allowing a more natural result and with the least possible human intervention.
2018 was an excellent year in Valle de Uco. This vintage was awarded 93 points by Wine Spectator: “Nearly ideal growing conditions deliver well-structured wines that feature fine-grained tannins and ripe fruit flavors.”
Tasting Notes:100% Cabernet Franc. Red color with violet hues. Expresses a great herbal character with notes of fresh red fruits. Lively acidity and subtlety of tannins in the mouth. Pair this wine with beef burgers, roasted pork, turkey, or grilled lamb. It also goes beautifully with cheeses like goat and brie.
As the wines from San Pablo tend to be, the 2018 Polígonos San Pablo Cabernet Franc is austere and sharp, with less ripeness and alcohol than the others. This is only 13% alcohol despite the fact that it's harvested later than any other regions (it's one of the last grapes harvested in the winery). It's vibrant, varietal, herbal and fresh, serious and dry, with a long finish. It matured in a 2,500-liter oak foudre. 3,000 bottles were filled in February 2019.” ~93+ Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
This racy Cabernet Franc from winemaker Sebastián Zuccardi is made entirely in concrete. Plum and berry tones are full and fresh on the nose and palate, while flavors of black fruit, herbs, tea and tomato linger on the smooth finish.Drink through 2024. ~93 Wine Enthusiast.
This is a bright and vivid red with blueberries, fresh flowers and hints of fresh herbs, such as basil. Medium-bodied, refined and easy with lovely fruit and crispness. Drink now. ~92 James Suckling.
