About the Wine

Situated in the heart of the Chianti region, Il Molino Di Grace is an enchanting capture of Chianti Classico's essence, boasting a rich history and a passion for crafting exceptional Tuscan wines.

Il Molino Di Grace's story dates back over 350 years when the vineyards first bloomed under the watchful care of local monks. Today, the Frank Grace family carries forward this timeless tradition with unwavering dedication, crafting critically acclaimed wines that celebrate the harmonious union of Tuscan terroir.

At the heart of the winery lies the iconic 19th-century windmill, after which it was aptly named. This historic landmark serves as a reminder of the winery's heritage, while embracing the future with modern winemaking techniques.

Founded by Frank Grace in the 1990s, the vision for Il Molino Di Grace was clear: To bottle the purest expression of the rocky terroir and succulent Sangiovese fruit that the Chianti hills deserve. It is a place where the artful traditions of old-world winemaking seamlessly blend with the innovation and technology of modern organic practices.

Sustainability is at the core of Il Molino Di Grace's philosophy. With a commitment to biodynamic practices, the vineyards are treated with utmost care, plowed once every three years, and the cuttings from the vines fuel the winery's heating and air conditioning, leaving no carbon footprint.

2016 was an amazing year for Chianti. Vinous Media blessed this year with a 98 point review and said, "A balanced growing season with no shock events yielded a set of truly exceptional wines. Near-perfect conditions. The wines are simply extraordinary, but 2016 is a consistently brilliant vintage across the board. In particular the best Riservas in particular offer the consumer extraordinary quality and value."

Aging: 16 months in French barriques and tonneaux new and first use.

Tasting Notes: 100% Sangiovese.

Reviews

A sheen of vanilla and toasty oak complements the lush, ripe black cherry and plum fruit in this suave Chianti Classico. Focused and well-structured, showing fine balance and a long finish that brings tobacco and orange peel hints into play. Best from 2022 through 2040. 4,500 cases made, 350 cases imported. ~95 Wine Spectator

A deep nose with notes of red plums, raspberries and calluses. Full body, ripe and well-rounded tannins and a brilliant and well-balanced finish. Many fruits and important acidity. Drink now through 2023 and beyond. ~94 WinesCritic.com

Il Molino di Grace's Riserva is a little like the middle child: when a Gran Selezione is produced at the estate, this is the second wine to be assembled and is often made in smaller quantities - and much smaller quantities than the SoloSangiovese. Yet the 2016 is simply lovely. It's bright and lifted with well-defined aromas of sweet herbs, coffee, raspberry bush and violets. It's packed with fruit but remains light on its feet. Elegantly structured and long. ~93 Decanter

The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva is another fabulous wine from Il Molino di Grace. Black cherry, plum, spice, lavender menthol and licorice all build in this beautifully layered, mid-weight Riserva. Ample, creamy and resonant, the Riserva is an absolute joy to taste today. ~93 Vinous

This is a very pretty Chianti Classico that shows plenty of freshly picked violets, hazelnuts and blackcurrants. There’s lots of fruit here, but it’s all delivered in a neat, compact package, bound by firm tannins and wrapped up in bright acidity. From organically grown grapes. Drink now or hold. ~92 James Suckling

Dark luminous ruby. Restrained nose. On the palate fresh and juicy with young tannin and spicy touch. Definitely needs time to evolve in the bottle. ~90 Falstaff
