Rue du Sorbier is named after the road where the Levasseur family estate sits, and it comes from the domaine’s oldest vineyards, planted in 1973. Located in the Vallée de la Marne, this Champagne is made primarily from Pinot Meunier, with small amounts of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay blended in. It’s a true reflection of the region’s character—rich, expressive, and full of depth.
The vineyards are located in the Vallée de la Marne, primarily in Cuchery, with additional plots in Fleury-la-Rivière and Châtillon-sur-Marne. Spread across 4.2 hectares and divided into 18 distinct plots, these vines grow in clay-limestone soils, which contribute to the wine’s structure and minerality. The cool climate of the Marne Valley helps preserve acidity and freshness, ensuring balance and vibrancy in the final cuvée.
David Levasseurtook over the family vineyards in 2003 and has been pushing boundaries ever since. He was the first producer in Champagne to earn three sustainability certifications—HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale), Terra Vitis, and Viticulture Durable—before starting the transition to organic farming in 2020. His hands-on approach in both the vineyard and winery results in Champagnes that balance tradition with innovation.
The cuvée is crafted from hand-harvested grapes and vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation occurring naturally. By blending 75% base wine and 25% reserve wine, Levasseur achieves consistency and complexity in every bottle.
Aging: Aged for 36 months on the lees, using 75% base wine and 25% reserve wine.
80% Pinot Meunier, 15% Pinot Noir, 5% Chardonnay. This expressive Champagne reveals a vibrant bouquet of white peach, ripe apricot, and fresh pears, layered with delicate floral notes and a subtle nutty richness. The palate is fresh yet round, with flavors of preserved fruits, tarte Tatin, and a hint of honey. A crisp acidity and fine mousse lead to a mineral-driven, refreshing finish.
80% Pinot Meunier, 15% Pinot Noir, 5% Chardonnay. Dosage 9 g/litre. Made from vines planted in 1973. This wine is three years old. Very fresh, apply, textured and lively with some nuts and marzipan as well as the distinctive fruity characters that Meunier imparts. Flavourful and detailed with nice weight. ~92 Jamie Goode
The NV Brut Rue du Sorbier stems from the Les Gautelleries parcel in Cuchery, planted in 1978. It is a blend of 80% Pinot Meunier, 15% Pinot Noir and 5% Chardonnay. Salted caramel plays enticingly on the nose and leads onto a lithe, chalky palate that is gentle with slightly foamy mousse. Beautiful freshness backs the evident concentration that brims with lovely apple briskness. This is youthful, but the fruit and the wine have much personality. Dosage is 8gr/L. ~90 Vinous Media
