About the Wine

Chateau La Patache derives its name from the very location where its vineyard thrives—a place steeped in the annals of wine history. Dating back to the 1800s, this small Right Bank estate was once owned by the esteemed Larroucaud family, known for their deep roots in Pomerol. Their legacy extended to Chateau l'Enclos, another Pomerol treasure, until 2006. In the 1980s, the property found new guardians in the form of La Diligence, an investor group, that recognized its potential.

In 2011, the estate changed hands once again, this time to the visionary Peter Kwok. Peter, born in Vietnam, was for many years a renowned banker and finance expert in China. He arrived and was established in France due to his love and passion for this culture and brought his children with him.

Peter managed to see his great love for France materialize in the form of a 750ml bottle. He believes that with a combination of excellent terroir, the right equipment, the best workers, and tons of patience, an exceptional wine can be made.

Vignobles K is a family business established in 2014 is formed by 7 vineyards located in some of the best Bordeaux appellations including Enclos Tourmaline in Pomerol, Chateau Tour Saint Christophe, Chateau Haut Brisson in St. Emilion, and Chateau Enclos de Viaud in the Lalande de Pomerol appellation.

The story of Chateau La Patache took a thrilling turn in 2015 when the estate witnessed a resurgence, thanks to painstaking efforts both in the cellars and the vineyards. In 2016, a fresh, modern label was unveiled, capturing the essence of transformation and rebirth.

2020 was an outstanding year for Bordeaux. Vinous Media blessed this year with a 98-point review and said, "Two thousand-twenty is an exceptional vintage for Bordeaux, certainly the best in the 2018-2020 trilogy. Quality is exceptionally high among the great wines of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol."

Reviews

A plush, fresh red with blackberries, walnuts and hints of cloves and nutmeg. It’s full-bodied and layered with a beautiful combination of fruit and velvety tannins. ~95-96 James Suckling

The 2020 La Patache is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, with an alcohol of 14% and a pH of 3.78. It is aging in French barriques, 30% new. Deep purple-black colored, it soars out of the glass with energetic scents of freshly crushed blackberries and black raspberries, Morello cherries and violets, plus hints of star anise, garrigue and black olives. The medium-bodied palate has a great intensity of refreshing, crunchy black fruits, supported by beautifully ripe, rounded tannins and finishing long and perfumed. Superbly poised and stylish—a real head-turner! ~92-94+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2020 La Patache is packed with the essence of inky red fruit, rose petal, sage and blood orange. Intense fruit and savory notes meld together effortlessly. This extroverted powerhouse Pomerol has plenty to offer, but it needs at least a handful of years in bottle to shed some of its youthful exuberance. ~92-94 Vinous Media
