Shannon Winery is a place where tradition meets innovation, where the rugged spirit of the land intertwines with the artistry of winemaking. Founder Clay Shannon, a true maverick, embarked on a journey in 1996 that would redefine winemaking. His determination to cultivate exceptional fruit in harmony with nature led to the creation of the Shannon Family of Wines. With over 2,000 acres of breathtaking mountain property, where over 1,000 are planted with vines, the Shannon Family of Wines stands as a testament to commitment and creativity.
At Shannon Family of Wines, the commitment to the environment isn't just a phase, it's a lifestyle that’s impregnated into every aspect of the family’s operations. The accolades, including the California Green Medal Environment Award, stand as proof of their unwavering dedication. The winery is Sustainable Certified, and they’re on their way to becoming one of the largest Certified Organic mountain-grown vineyards in the U.S.
Exceptional wine matures over time. On the north slopes of High Valley, nestled in the fertile Franciscan soils, a hidden 2.7-acre gem awaits within Betsy's Vineyard. These ancient vines, aged for over 30 years, yield petite clusters of the most delectable Petite Sirah grapes.
Aging: 9 months in French and American oak.
100% Petite Sirah. Dark, delicious. Picked at the peak of ripeness, this fruit forward varietal shows off dark fruits of blackberry, and blueberry and hints of cranberry, black pepper, cedar, warm spices, and toasty vanilla notes.
This wine is rich with aromas of blackberry, clove, African violet and dried chicory. The palate has flavors of huckleberry, blueberry, cherry cola, orange zest and Earl Grey tea, sliding into a silky, dry finish. Decant the wine and enjoy.~93 Wine Enthusiast
The history of Petite Sirah in California goes back to the mid-19th century, and today the wine has something of a cult following, albeit a cult that’s not for the faint of heart. This not-at-all-petite Petite Sirah is a powerhouse with a steel door of tannin that will require some years to soften. Immediate drinkers may want to ensure some lamb shanks or short ribs are in the oven! The oldest Petite Sirah vines on Ridge’s Lytton estate were planted in 1901, and the youngest in 2008. Ridge’s commitment to American oak is a blessing here, lending a top note of vanilla to an otherwise dark and gamey wine. ~92 Decanter
