About the Wine

Family owned and operated since its founding in 1961, Heitz Cellars is steeped in history and tradition. Pioneer Joe Heitz produced the first Napa Valley vineyard designated Cabernet Sauvignon, ushering in a the modern wave of Napa Valley wines. Fifty-eight years later, the Heitz family’s dedication to viticulture, stewardship, and classic winemaking, has maintained the winery’s notoriety as a benchmark amongst its peers in California and Europe. Simply put, they're one of the best wine producers in the world!

The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced mainly from two vineyards in St. Helena: the Only One Vineyard and the Spring Valley Vineyard. While this wine can age for decades, it is intended to be an exceptional entry point into the classic Heitz style and hints at what can be experienced with their single vineyard wines.

The 2015 Vintage was known for its unusually warm weather which lead to reduced yields at harvest. Luckily those reduced yields resulted in impeccable quality of fruit. This vintage expresses great depth of flavor and intensity, which offers a truly memorable wine drinking experience right now and will continue to shine many years in the future.

Aging: 4 years in French oak both old and new.

Tasting notes: The Palate expresses beautiful aromas of blackberry contrasted perfectly with spiced notes of nutmeg. There is a luscious weight and texture to the wine, but also a racy edge of well-balanced acidity on the palate. A powerful, yet elegant wine with wonderful aging potential. A true expression of the Heitz winemaking philosophy.

Reviews

Woody, herbal and elegantly structured, this wine is high-toned and freshly layered in bold red fruit. Given time in the barrel and the bottle, it shows its graceful edges and nuanced elegance with ease, finishing in dusty crushed rock. It vastly overdelivers on its price point. ~95WE
