Chateau Bellevue-Mondotte is a masterpiece produced by Gerard Perse, renowned owner of Bordeaux vineyards including Chateau Pavie and Chateau Monbousquet. Unearthed from the picturesque Saint Emilion village, Chateau Bellevue-Mondotte is a gem that promises an unparalleled wine experience.
In 2001, Gerard Perse's passion for perfection led him to acquire Chateau Bellevue-Mondotte. This exquisite vineyard, nestled just east of Saint Emilion village, joined the prestigious collection of Perse-owned estates. Among them, the esteemed Chateau Pavie, Chateau Pavie Decesse, and Chateau Monbousquet.
Spanning around 5 acres, Chateau Bellevue-Mondotte's vineyard boasts a singular dedication to the Merlot grape, starting from the remarkable 2020 vintage, where Merlot is the queen, with vines of around 50 years. This petite paradise is divided into two distinct parcels, each embodying its own terroir: half composed of clay and limestone, and the other half steeped in pure, deep limestone.
Driven by meticulous green harvesting and scrupulous selection, Chateau Bellevue-Mondotte achieves some of the lowest yields among Right Bank Bordeaux estates. A true rarity in the world of wine, the property's production can dip to as little as 15 hectoliters per hectare!
2020 was an outstanding year for Bordeaux. Vinous Media blessed this year with a 98-point review and said, "Two thousand-twenty is an exceptional vintage for Bordeaux, certainly the best in the 2018-2020 trilogy. Quality is exceptionally high among the great wines of Saint-Émilion and Pome

This is a terrific wine that has everything, from seamless texture to great depth of fruit. Full-bodied, yet agile and energetic. Pure merlot. One of the best I have had from here. ~ 98-99 James Suckling
The 2020 Bellevue Mondotte is made from 100% Merlot, with an alcohol of 14.92% and a pH of 3.54. It is aging in French oak barriques, 90% new. Displaying an opaque purple-black color, it sashays out of the glass with flamboyant notes of plum preserves, blackberry compote and blueberry pie, plus hints of hoisin, Chinese five spice and camphor with a touch of dried rose petals. The concentrated, seductive, full-bodied palate delivers layer upon layer of black and blue fruit preserves, accented by exotic spices and supported with firm, ripe, rounded tannins plus fantastic freshness. The finish is epically long and achingly fragrant. Wow! ~96-98 Robert Parker
The 2020 Bellevue Mondotte is another powerhouse from the team at Pavie. All Merlot from the upper plateau above Chateau Pavie (the soils here contain a touch more clay), this full-bodied, deep, concentrated 2020 has a tight, unevolved bouquet of darker raspberries, cassis, truffly earth, and chocolate. Balanced, structured, and incredibly pure, it's mostly potential at this point and needs to be forgotten for 5-6 years. Best After 2028 ~98 Jeb Dunnuck
Produced from old Merlot vines, this is a rich, juicy wine with layers of fresh acidity as well as blackberry fruits. The tannins give this superripe wine powerful density that will push it well towards aging. ~95 Wine Enthusiast
This is dominated by crème de cassis, giving a flash of heat, which threatens to overpower. The tannins build up fairly swiftly, but alongside is a full on cascade of dark berry fruits. This is intense and architectural - it closes down firmly on the finish, but will open back up over the next decade. 3.54pH. A yield of 18hl/ha. 2ha vineyard, right up on the clay-limestone plateau, malolactic fermentation in large vats, 90% new oak. Drinking Window 2025 - 2040 ~93 Decanter
