This is the kind of wine that makes you pause, stare at the glass, and think, “Why haven’t I been drinking this my whole life?” Seriously, this is next-level Napa goodness.
Crafted by winemaking legend Frank Altamura—who’s been perfecting his art since the ‘80s—this wine is like the Napa Valley’s version of a greatest hits album. With experience honed alongside icons like Charlie Wagner at Caymus, Frank knows his way around a Cabernet. Throw in his son Giancarlo’s fresh energy, and together, they’ve created a wine so good, you’ll be tempted to give it a standing ovation.
Altamura’s 400-acre estate in Wooden Valley is a secluded paradise for Cabernet lovers. Picture vines basking in Napa sunshine at 700–1,000 feet elevation, rooted in soils that rival Napa’s A-list spots like Rutherford Bench and Howell Mountain. These grapes? Dry-farmed, meticulously cared for, and bursting with flavor. It’s like they were born to be bottled perfection.
2018 was a Napa winemaker's dream, a vintage Decanter says “belongs in an echelon with the finest of the past two decades,” and 2018 Wine Spectator blessed this year with 99 points and said it was a"Spectacular year, with wines that are rich and dark, but detailed, restrained in style and very terroir-driven."
Aging: 34 months in 70% New French oak barrels.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark cherries, blackberries, and cassis swirl together with hints of cocoa, cedar, and warm spices. Take a sip, and you’re on a ride—ripe, juicy fruit, velvety tannins, and a finish so long, you might forget what you were doing before you poured the glass. Pair it with a ribeye, lamb chops, or your fanciest chocolate stash. Or skip the food entirely—this wine can hold its own just fine.
The 2018 Altamura Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and is deep garnet-purple in color. It slowly unfurls to reveal intense scents of blackcurrant cordial, blackberry preserves, and dried lavender, plus suggestions of crushed rocks and black olives. Full-bodied, the palate delivers vibrant, lively black fruit and mineral layers, supported by velvety tannins, finishing long and fragrant. Really different. ~96+ The Wine Independent
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is a charming, sweetly fruited effort with loads of character. First produced in 1985 and all from estate fruit, aged in 70% new barrels, its healthy purple hue is followed by forward notes of redcurrants, darker berries, tobacco leaf, and loamy earth. Medium to full-bodied, with a layered, sexy, rounded style on the palate, it's perfect for enjoying any time over the coming 10-12 years or more. ~91 Jeb Dunnuck
