In 2000, two visionaries, Lenny Recanati and Uri Shaked, set out to make their dream a reality. They wanted to create Israeli wines that would be celebrated around the world. Thus, Recanati Winery was born, embodying their passion and dedication.
Recanati Winery quickly became a standout in the Israeli wine scene. Lenny and Uri, along with their talented winemaking team, focused on capturing the unique essence of Israel’s terroir. They began by exploring classic international grape varieties, learning the land and climate to find the perfect growing conditions.
In 2007, during a night harvest, inspiration struck. Why not blend classic varieties with those native to the Mediterranean? This innovative idea led to wines like the celebrated Wild Carignan and the ancient Marawi, a grape variety with a 3,000-year history.
Today, under the guidance of Kobi Arviv, Recanati Winery continues to break new ground. Kobi, who joined the team in 2006, brings a fresh perspective, blending Mediterranean grapes with Israel’s diverse climates to create exceptional wines.
Chief Winemaker is Gil Shatsberg, a graduate of the U.C. Davis wine program, brings a wealth of experience to Recanati. He honed his craft at Amphorae and Carmel wineries and trained at Trefethen Vineyards and Jordan Vineyards before joining the team.
The Recanati family, one of the most wealthy and influential families in Israel, has played a pivotal role in the winery's success. Their commitment to quality and innovation has helped place Recanati Winery at the forefront of Israel’s modern wine revolution.
Recanati wines are highly praised by critics and regularly earn top scores. Their inclusion in Wine Spectator’s New York Wine Experience showcases their standing among the world’s best wineries.
Bittuni is an ancient grape variety used for wine-making for thousands of years. It was almost lost, with only a few vines surviving. Recanati Winery is proud to offer this special wine, made from these ancient vines that have endured many changes in Israel.
100% Bittuni. A wine with light, flowery and aromatic minerality, with a bouquet of red cherries and Mediterranean spices.
This wine has a bouquet of raspberry and lavender. It is gentle on the palate, with very smooth tannins providing a framework for flavors of blackberry, strawberry, white chocolate and violet. The smooth finish offers a parting burst of pomegranate flavor. ~91 Winr Enthusiast
