About the Wine

The story of Podere Prospero dates back to 20 years ago. It all started when Carla Prospero, who was traveling with his husband through the Tuscan hills, arrived at Bolgheri. It was love at first sight, she was mesmerized by the culture, the landscapes, the food, and especially the wines, and so she decided to buy a small 9-acre estate located in the Via Bolgherese, right in the heart of the appellation, which was already planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot.

Today, the estate is run by Carla’s daughter, Nadia Zenato. Nadia says Bolgheri is a way of being, an expression of the soul; a suspended dimension in which places, sounds, fragrances, materials, and colors are interwoven in a poignant composition. The dark blue of the sea dazzles you, the light blue of the sky caresses you, while the green of the vineyard embraces you.”

Bolgheri is a region located in beautiful Tuscany, one of the greatest references for wine. Tuscany was for a long time a very conservative wine-growing place, where it was only allowed to make wines under strict regulations and with the use of Sangiovese grapes, until the Bolgheri region resonated, where, thanks to its particular terroir conditions, it is a perfect place to plant French varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, resulting in the famous “Super Tuscan Wines”. This disruptive region has managed to deliver us some of the best wines that we currently have in the world. And let me tell you, wine lovers are deeply grateful to the intrepid revolutionaries of this magnificent region!

Tasting NotesCabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Intense ruby red, with enveloping aromas of berries, black pepper, and balsamic notes. Lively, with good acidity and persistence from the fine, harmonious tannins. Elegant and refined.

Reviews

Pepper, clove, ash, and slightly stalky nose with beautiful flavors of cassis, plum, mint, and spice. Long, plush finish. ~94 Decanter

A very refined Bolgheri expression with dark cherries, blueberries, cedar and spices, plus hints of iodine and licorice. Tight yet juicy tannins with a good helping of fruit that’s balanced out by some nice acidity. Drink in 2020. ~93 James Suckling

Ripe, bursting with aromas and flavors of plum, black cherry preserves, and violet. Accents of wild herbs and tobacco seep in as this winds down on the dusty finish. Firm tannins emerge in the end. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2021 through 2028. 250 cases made, 50 cases imported. ~92 Wine Spectator

There are distant notes of dark spice and tar in the 2016 Bolgheri Rosso. Otherwise, this blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Franc delivers loads of bold cherry and dried blackberry fruit. The fruit is dark and inky in color. The drinking window on this Bolgheri should be on the near or medium-term side. Some 4,800 bottles were made. ~91 Wine Advocate
