2021 Chateau Nenin Pomerol

Chateau Nenin is located on the “Right Bank” of Bordeaux, in the Pomerol appellation, was formerly owned by the Despujol Family since 1847. But in 1997 it became the property of the Delon Family. The family has deep roots and experience in Bordeaux, they were owners of Chateau Leoville Las Cases in St. Julien appellation and Chateau Potensac located in Haut Médoc. 2016 is a vintage for the cellars, with layers of depth and structure that will last decades. That being said, with Michel Roland consulting you can guarantee that this wine is delicious now if you are looking for a wine that really packs a punch. 

In 1999 they expanded the estate by purchasing 4 hectares of vineyard from Chateau Certan Giraud. Later in 2004, a restructuring of the winery was carried out; from the vineyard to the cellar. The cellar was extended and renewed with modern equipment. And to finish this magnificent renovation, they built a new vat room with state-of-the-art equipment.

Chateau Nenin has 32 ha of planted vineyard: 78% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. Alluvial soils composed of siliceous clay and gravel, quartz, granite, iron-deposits, and basalt pebbles.

2021 is looking to be a good vintage for Bordeaux.Vinous Mediagave it a 92-94 points, and said: " The 2021 Bordeaux have turned out to be such a surprise. The best wines offer a striking combination of old-school classicism with modern-day precision."

Garnet-purple color. On the nose, elegant notes of blueberries and blackberries, hints of mocha and cigar and floral aromas like violets. On the palate, very structured and long finish. 

This has aromas and flavors of dark fruit, bark, chocolate, cedar and mushrooms. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, with a fleshy texture around the chewy and polished tannins. Needs time to soften, as it’s a little austere now. Best after 2026. ~93 James Suckling

The 2021 Nenin is a decided overperformer, bursting from the glass with notes of dark berries, plums and cherries, complemented by exotic top notes of rose petals, violets, Indian spices and orange zest. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and velvety, it's lively and polished, with a layered core of fruit and a long, perfumed finish. ~93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 

This wine shows red-berry aromas with black peppers in the background. The black-currant fruits from perfumed Cabernet Franc are forward and packed with acidity. Drink from 2026. ~93 Wine Enthusiast

Pot pourri aromas, perfumed and floral, with strawberry and cherry chocolate. Crunchy and lively on the palate with an initial mouthwatering sensation that comes from all corners of the mouth. It's a touch soft on the Mid-palate, losing a little of the glamorous and plush fruit forwardness, leaving some liquorice spice, iodine and clove in the middle. It’s just so fruity and lively at the beginning - the bitter grapefruit, blood orange, sour cherry and raspberry - then stops just a little short, suddenly becoming quite shy with the terroir effects of graphite and wet stone and the Cabernet Franc spice and focus coming in and taking over. It has a gently caressing feel however, classic and straight with a seamless tannic structure. Good precision on show and will benefit from ageing. ~93 Decanter

36% Cabernet Franc, 64%. Dark Ruby. Dark cherries, blackberries, cassis, spicy notes of Cabernet are present, a hint of tobacco and violets resonates. Creamy and soft on the palate, fine tannins, slim body, incredibly fresh and juicy, the fruit is crisp and harmonizes with the fruit, pleasantly long and with a finale of blood oranges. Reserved in style, but the core of steeped cherry, red currant and blood orange flavors has excellent definition, while rooibos tea, sweet bay leaf and savory sparkles add range on the finish. Reveals a polished edge, which works well with the late tug of earth on the finish. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2026 through 2036. ~92 Wine Spectator

The 2021 Château Nenin is up-front and lively, with the vintage's fresher, vibrant style in its mulberry and redcurrant-like fruit as well as spicy herbs and tobacco notes. It’s medium-bodied, balanced, has soft tannins, and present yet nicely integrated acidity. I'd give bottles 2-4 years and enjoy over the following decade ~90 Jeb Dunnuck
