Miro Tcholakov, the genius behind this amazing wine, began his journey in Bulgaria, a place with a centuries-old tradition of making wine. As a young boy, Miro learned the art of winemaking from his grandfather, and his fascination with this age-old craft only grew stronger over the years.
After completing his viticulture and enology studies at the Higher Institute of Agriculture in Plovdiv, Miro embarked on an international adventure. In 1990, he found himself in Napa Valley, California, where he joined the team at Dry Creek Vineyard as a harvest intern. Little did he know that this temporary position would pave the way for his illustrious winemaking career.
In 1998, Miro took on the role of Winemaker at Trentadue Winery, where he continues to create world-class, award-winning wines to this day. His dedication to winemaking excellence led him to produce his own wines, gaining recognition and acclaim from renowned critics like Robert Parker. His expertise even extended to consulting for the Bulgarian VINI wine brand, and in 2020, he acquired BulgarianWine.com to bring the flavors of Bulgaria to wine enthusiasts worldwide.
Winemaker Miro, on his quest to discover unique vineyards, stumbled upon Hitchcock Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Located atop a mountain range between the Russian River, Knights Valley, and Chalk Hill appellations, this vineyard enjoys abundant sunshine and refreshing breezes. With its mature vines and steep hills with volcanic soils, it yields a Cabernet Sauvignon of remarkable intensity, deep color, and concentrated tannins. In summary, it's an exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon that promises to please any palate and has impressive aging potential, with a limited production of only 440 cases.
The 2021 vintage in this region is looking very promising, Vinous Media said, "Two thousand twenty-one is the best Sonoma vintage since 2018. While that may not be saying all that much in terms of the time elapsed, the 2021s are both very high in quality and consistent across the board. It’s a vintage full of stunning, compelling wines."
Aging: 20 months in 30% new French oak
Tasting Notes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine from Hitchcock Vineyard definitely has its own unique character. The relatively small berry size and lower yield made very dark and concentrated wine with well-expressed wild berry fruit aromas. There is no denying the full body and almost grippy tannins guaranteeing years of longevity. In addition, there are already layers of complexity, unusual for such a young wine. Enjoy now or age for another 7-15 years.
