Vinous Media said, "For lovers and collectors of the world's best white wines, it’s time to welcome Soave back to your cellars,"we agree.
Soave is a wine appellation located right between Venice and Verona in northeastern Italy with vineyards that sit among lovely, green rolling hills (yeah, just like we've seen in Hollywood movies!) This famed wine area is no longer home to the bulk wines it was producing back in the 80s, today, Soave is a region creating vibrant wines, from easy-drinking (and stellar-priced) white wines to more complex ones.
Decanter magazine said it best, “This region is still the perennial summertime thirst-quencher, but thanks to its rich and varied terroirs the wines of this well-known Veneto region offer impressive diversity and complexity.”
Casarotto Winery is at the foot of the Lessini Mountains, bordering the Soave area. This region is characterized by its outstanding terroir, made up of volcanic soils, composed of tuffs and basalts rich in iron, magnesium, and other micro-elements. This volcanic soil creates wines with complexity, and many producers believe the volcanic soil is responsible for the cinnamon and almond-like notes in these wines. Casarotto’s wines are a must-try, since we first tasted them, we immediately fell in love and decided to directly import them. This is a BHW Exclusive import you don’t want to miss!
Since its inception, in 1945, this estate has been owned and operated by the Casarotto family and is now run by the third generation. Celeste is a very hands-on winemaker who’s born and raised among vines and wines. He had to take the leadership of the winery at the very young age of 15 years old, and ever since, he’s learned every aspect of the game, from the vineyard to the cellar. Celeste is teaching all his expertise to his daughter Francesca, who’s managing the cellar, and his son Luigi, who’s in charge of the vineyard. The 37-acre vineyard is planted with 35 to 40-year-old native grapes like Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave.
Casarotto produces remarkable wines of extremely high quality, wines that are adored by some of the world’s most respected wine critics. But, it's not only the wines that shine in Casarotto, it's also the sublime landscape, location, and building itself (a must-visit if you're around this area sometime.) WineTourism.comrecently featured Casarotto among “the best wineries in Soave” and said that “the winery area has been an eye-catcher as the scenic views of nature surrounding it.” When you get one sip of this artisanal, single vineyard, born-in-volcanic soils wine, you’ll understand why!
100% Garganega. Dry wine straw yellow-colored with delicate aromas of yellow-fleshed fruits like peach, apple, pear, apricots, and melon, and exotic fruits like pineapple, citrus, and pawpaw. The wine is pleasant, fresh, and easy to drink. If you love Sauvignon Blanc and you're looking to branch out to try new wines, buy this.
