Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, boasts a rich winemaking tradition influenced by its diverse climates and unique terroirs. From its sunny coastal areas to the volcanic soils of Mount Etna, Sicily’s varied landscapes contribute to its distinctive and flavorful wines.

Mandrarossa, established in 1999, brings a modern twist to Sicilian winemaking by blending tradition with innovation. The winery is known for its commitment to exploring and optimizing Sicily’s terroirs. With guidance from oenologists Mimmo De Gregorio and Filippo Buttafuoco, and experts like Alberto Antonini and Pedro Parra, Mandrarossa focuses on cultivating grapes in prime locations such as the sandy coastal areas and hillside vineyards of Menfi. This dedication to quality includes in-depth research on limestone soils and various Sicilian regions to enhance their wine production.

Mandrarossa’s vineyards are spread across several notable Sicilian territories.Menfi, with its subtle hills and Mediterranean coastline, provides a unique habitat for cultivating grapes. The area’s rich biodiversity and favorable climate contribute to the high quality of Mandrarossa’s wines.

Additionally, the winery explores new regions, including the volcanic soils of Mount Etna, which offer distinct and complex flavor profiles. This commitment to understanding and utilizing Sicily’s diverse terroirs allows Mandrarossa to produce exceptional wines that reflect the island's varied landscapes.

Aging: 12 months in French oak barrels.

100% Nero d'Avola. Ruby with purple highlights. Intense aromas of cherries and blackberries. A complex and full-bodied wine with balanced, sweet tannins.

Bright, intense ruby red. Finely drawn nose with elegant notes of raspberries, ripe forest fruits and licorice, very inviting. Filigree and elegant on the palate, appears very balanced, great freshness in the middle with tightly woven tannins, finishes long and with a pleasant pressure. ~94 Falstaff

Strong ruby. Deep and complex on the nose, on the one hand aromas of ripe blackberries, preserved plums, dark cherries and wild berries, on the other hand clear roasted notes, peat and dark chocolate from the barrique. Round and very full-bodied at the start, fruity and very melty, strong body, very fine, already well-integrated tannins, the concentrated fruit bundle with notes of blackberries and cherries is supported by a pleasant acidity, the wood is noticeable but well integrated, spicy, The wine resonates almost peppery and with a lot of charm in the very long finish. Made in a modern way, but without an excessive dominance of wood, this is a very successful Nero d'Avola that can compete with many more expensive wines from this variety. ~90 Adrian van Velsen - vvWine.ch
