Just 4 miles away from Château Ausone and a few hundred yards from Valandraud, two of the finest and most popular Châteaux in the world, you’ll find Chateau de Pressac, an ancient estate that dates back to medieval times, when this property was first functioning as a fortress.
The name was given because back in 1737, with the current owners started planting the grape Noir de Pressac (aka Malbec). Today, this emblematic grape is used in all the Château’s wines.
Since 1997, this superb Château is owned by Jean Francois Quentin. He is responsible for transforming and modernizing the cellar and winemaking area. Jean Francois has been pushing for high-quality wine since his arrival. Jean Francois Quenin is a rockstar in Saint-Emilion. Besides owning this recognized Château, he’s also the President of the Union of Saint Emilion, Pomerol and Fronsac, and the President of the St. Emilion Wine Council. This man sure knows his land!
Set upon a hill overlooking the valley, Pressac covers a total of 103 acres located in Saint Emilion Grand Cru. With a beautiful terroir composed of limestone and clay soils, this estate and its planted with all the great Bordeaux queens. Year after year, Chateau De Pressac has been delivering extraordinary wines, and 2019 was no exception. This wine has been highly praised by some of the most important wine critics. James Suckling called it "attractive," while Falstaff said this is a "juicy, complex" wine.
It's very unlikely to find Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classified coming from a renowned Château like Pressac, but here it is, we did it for you! Extremely high quality at an amazing price.
Aging: 18 months in French oak barrels (50% new)
72 % Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Malbec, 2% Carmenère, 2% Petit Verdot.
Crimson color. Lovely black and red fruit aromas, with subtlePeppery notes. The palate shows a superb balance and velvety tannins. This wine will age for decades.
Very beautiful aromas of redcurrants and ripe plums with bark and moss, following through to a medium to full body with firm, creamy tannins and hints of salt and fresh herbs. So attractive now, but much better in 2025 and onwards. ~94 James Suckling.
The 2019 de Pressac is fabulous. Inky, rich and explosive, the 2019 possesses off-the-charts intensity and personality. Inky red and purplish fruit, rose petal, lavender, spice, menthol and wild flowers all run through the 2019. With its serious aromatic and flavor complexity, de Pressac is one of the most intriguing wines in all of Saint-Emilion - its amazing it does not get more attention. A whole range of floral and mineral notes punctuate the finish. ~93-95 Vinous Media
Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, subtle ocher edge brightening. Tobacco-spicy underlaid black forest berries, dark heart cherries, a hint of velor, figs, candied orange zest. Juicy, complex, fine plum fruit, fine, well-integrated tannins, sweet and persistent, good length, salty finish, definite development potential. ~93 Falstaff.
Dense and dark red with a purple hue. Youthful but balanced aromas with fine oak and toast underneath, herbal notes of sage, fresh herbs but no greenness on the taste, savory dark fruit notes like cassis, and black cherry with fresh tobacco leaves. Dense and concentrated with fine proportions and layers, exemplary tannin with a fresh bite underneath, fine persistency, and overall balance. ~93 Andreas Larsson.
The nose is aromatic, elegant, and racy and offers power. It reveals notes of blackberry, grilled, small notes of black/Sichuan pepper, and raspberry associated with touches of small wild fruits, and fleshy cassis as well as hints of cardamom and very discreet touches of vanilla. The palate is fruity, elegant, precise, and straight and offers a beautiful silky touch, a fine grain, and gourmandize as well as a pulpy/juicy fruit, straightness, and fine freshness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy/pulpy cassis, juicy blackberry, small notes of small juicy/pulpy fruits associated with touches of fleshy/juicy blue fruits, cornflower, iris as well as hints of vanilla, licorice, cardamom, and an imperceptible hint of black tea (in the background). Good length. Tannins are racy, precise, and offer power. ~93 VertdeVin
Sweet cherry and violets on the nose. Lovely smooth texture with fruit that has great precision and mouth watering acidity - strawberry, red cherries and redcurrants. It's fresh and fruity with a texture that just gently grips and holds interest. I like this and the long finish too. Just the barest hint of freshly picked mint leaves on the finish adding a cooling element to the final impression. ~94 Decanter.
I loved the 2019 Château De Pressac from barrel, and it showed nicely from bottle, with a charming, nicely balanced, elegant profile that still brings plenty of fruit. Black cherries, blackberries, spicy oak, and dried herbs all define the nose, and it's medium-bodied on the palate, has ripe yet present tannins, and outstanding length. It already offers pleasure, but I'd give bottles just a handful of years in the cellar, and it's going to evolve for 15 years or more. ~91 Jeb Dunnuck
