Château Saint Barbe is a historical estate that dates to the 14th century. This magical Château, located on the banks of the Garonne, is named a “Monument Historique,” which is a designation given to some national heritage sites in France.

The estate comprises over 74 acres of vineyards, where 85% is planted with Merlot, and the rest with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The vineyard is managed under sustainable practices and is certified HVE3.

The ideal terroircomposed of alluvial clay soils, a perfect sub-oceanic climate with some Mediterranean influences, and the expertise of winemakers Phillipe and Estelle, is the perfect combination to create these outstanding, top-tier wines, that will make even the most demanding palates fall in love.

Since 2013, Château Saint Barbe has been owned by the Gaye family, the same owners as Château Grand Corbin Manuel and Château Haut-Cadet in Saint Emilion Grand Cru, and Château La Creation in Pomerol. This family has been pushing for the highest quality in the vineyard and cellar and for an exceptional wine touristic experience. They recently were named one of the world’s “Best of Wine Tourism” by Great Wine Capitals.

The Wine Cellar Insider talks about Bordeaux Superieur, stating that it “offers fabulous, stylish, character drinking that won’t break the bank.”

2018 Chateau Sainte-Barbe is indeed a fabulous and stylish wine that comes from an outstanding vintage, one that was awarded 96 points by Vinous Media, who stated that "It is a very strong vintage that falls just short of being truly epic."

Aging: 14 months in French oak barrels.

85% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. A beautiful nose of ripe fruit and spices with a good freshness. A supple attack with firm tannins, amazing quality. Long end.

Pretty, juicy fruit with a medium body, ripe tannins, and a savory finish. Attractive concentration for the appellation. ~91 James Suckling.

Part of the Grand Cercle, this is easily a top wine from the tasting. The purity of the fruit in the aromatic profile is very impressive, with blackberry and red currant, as well as pleasing oak-derived spice. The palate reveals some freshly ground coffee beans along with ripe juicy plums. The finish tightens up a bit, so give it time. And kudos to the informative back label. ~91 Decanter.
