“As a winemaker, my job is to bring out the best qualities that the vines have provided. I don’t seek to make a style of wine but more so to make wine that sings of its place, its history and its uniqueness. That’s my goal as a winemaker, to make wines that are pure expressions of their environment and not mask it. Wines with an identity.” ~Julien Fayard, Winemaker
Welcome to the world of Nicholson Jones—a place where two passionate minds came together to create something of of this world. On one side, you’ve got Julien Fayard, a French-born winemaker with a résumé that reads like a who's who of the wine world, including stints at Château Lafite Rothschild and Quintessa. On the other, there’s Cal Nicholson, a former marketing guru who traded corporate life for surfing and winemaking. Together, they’ve crafted a wine that’s as rich and complex as the story behind it.
These bottles of Nicholson Jones Cabernet Sauvignonrepresents the fruits of two remarkable vineyards—Sugarloaf and Sleeping Lady. Sugarloaf Vineyard, with its rugged, volcanic soil, captures the sun's warmth during the day and releases it by night, nurturing the Cabernet grapes to their fullest expression. Meanwhile, the Sleeping Lady Vineyard, located at the western edge of the Yountville AVA, adds an elegant finesse to balance these powerful wines.
FYI: These wines are exclusively crafted at Covert Estate—where Nick Jones’ wines are meticulously made—these coveted bottles are typically only available through a private mailing list, with prices starting at $200 a bottle.
Don’t miss your chance to taste Napa’s finest through the years, side by side.

"100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard in Napa. It is aged for 19 months in 100% new French oak. With a decade of bottle age, the 2014 Nicholson Jones Cabernet Sauvignon is beginning to reveal its full potential. It opens with deep notes of dark blackcurrant fruit and spiced plums layered with decadent loamy earth. The nose unfolds with hints of fine tobacco and rich baking spices, including cinnamon and coriander, with a subtle touch of cumin adding complexity. Full-bodied, it presents satiny dark fruits on the palate, supported by persistent, firmly structured tannins. The finish is long and beautifully lingering, featuring smoky graphite minerality, a hint of pink Himalayan sea salt, and an extended tail of currant fruit. Only 150 cases were produced.
