“Prosecco is one of the hottest wine categories in the world at the moment. Maybe it’s the reasonable price compared to Champagne or other sparkling wines. Or maybe it’s the light, fresh style of Italy’s popular spumante? Whatever, Prosecco can be wonderful, especially as an aperitif.” ~ James Suckling.
Tenuta Santome is located in the Veneto region, - or like wine critic Jancis Robinson once named it "Italy's wine factory" - in the province of Treviso aka "The garden of Venice". If this region rings a bell to you, is because the famous and beloved Italian Prosecco is produced here.
Tenuta Santome was born in 1971, when Toni, who was a vintner with years of experience, bought just over 9 acres in Vazzola. Over the years, and as his son Armando and grandson Alan began to get involved, this family-owned Tenuta continued to grow until they reached more than 180 acres of vineyards, planted in some of the most important areas of the province of Treviso.
Tenuta Santome is fully committed to the health of the land and the environment. Since 2018, this winery was certified by the National Integrated Production Quality System SQNPI as a fully sustainable winery; they work with ecological, economic, and environmental principles. In addition, the vast majority of their wines are vegan, including this Prosecco Superiore Brut DOCG.
Superiore DOCG refers to wines produced in one of the 43 designated crus. These Proseccos are the crème de la crème, and the most sought after and admired of all. Santome Prosecco Superiore Brut DOCG comes from a vineyard called Bosco Coste, located in the heart of the Prosecco Superiore DOCG Conegliano Valdobbiadene area. The terroir of this Cru, composed of acrylic soils and a spectacular cool climate, results in harmonious and elegant wines with spectacular acidity, floral and fruity aromas.
Tasting Notes: Glera. Filled with complex aromas, intense and fresh, revealing flavors of pear and apricot yielding delicate floral notes of white flowers backed up by hints of bread of crust and yeast. Rich to the taste, well-rounded with good structure, elegant and harmonious with an assertive and balanced acidity, sapid, dry with a long and persistent finish. This wine goes perfectly with fish, white meats, and fresh cheeses.
