2019 Fatalone Primitivo Riserva Gioia Del Colle

This wine hails from the Murge hills within the territory of Gioia del Colle in Puglia, the heel of the boot. The vineyards were once covered by the sea and there are marine fossils in the soil, which lends itself to a unique minerality in the wines.

Primitivo is better known by its American name, Zinfandel, with which is it genetically related.

The current generation at Petrera were the first to bottle 100% Primitivo in 1987 and founded the DOC Primitivo Gioia del Colle in 2000. They do everything by hand and in strict accordance with Certified Organic Agriculture standards. The wines are big, rich, meaty and smoky.

Aging: 12 months in tanks

Ruby red intense colour with violet glares. Scent and taste typically berry fruity
and slightly of sour black cherryand mussel plum. Smooth warm balanced. Aftertaste of toasted almond, typical of the Primitivo of Gioia del Colle.

Very good balance of ripe but bright red fruit and a touch of vanilla from the oak. Almost full-bodied with delicious fruit on the palate, well-integrated tannins and a long finish that brings out a light coffee-cream note. Plenty going on here. From organically grown grapes.
