About the Wine

Just over 2 miles from the acclaimed Château Cheval Blanc is Grand Mayne, a Grand Cru Classé Château within the Wine and Saint-Emilion Classification.

Château Grand Mayne is a property with a large original castle from the 16th century. Those responsible for the construction of this magnificent and important castle were its first owners, the Laveau family.

Thanks to the acquisition of the Château by the Nony family in 1934, the property was revolutionized, starting with the vineyard to the wine cellar. Currently, the property is managed by Jean-Antoine Nony, who has contributed greatly to the quality of the wineand has as its purpose the continuous improvement of the Château.

Grand Mayne has passed through the hands of renowned winemakers and currently, Rockstar Michelle Rolland is in charge. Michelle Rolland, known as the “Spielberg of Wine,” is a consultant in more than 13 countries around the world including some of the most recognized Châteaux in France.

Château Grand Mayne has 42 acres of vineyards with 30-year-old vines, 78% with Merlot, 19% with Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon planted in clay and limestone soils.

Tasting Notes:80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Red wine. Garnet-purple color. Raspberry and black cherry fruit flavors. Medium to full-bodied. Fine tannins and impeccable balance. Pair this wine with Roast Beef, lamb, veal.

Reviews

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Grand Mayne features fragrant kirsch, redcurrant jelly, and black plums scents with touches of garrigue, mossy bark, and Sichuan pepper. Full-bodied, rich, and densely laden with vibrant red and black fruits, it has a plush frame and very long, earth-laced finish. ~ 94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2016 Grand Mayne has turned out beautifully. Fresh, perfumed, and nuanced, the 2016 is super-appealing. Sweet red berry, blood orange, mint, and flowers add energy to an expressive Saint-Émilion that is texturally rich and also vibrant. I really like the sheer energy of the 2016. This is a wine of real character. ~ 93 Vinous

This is a rich and balanced wine. It has generous tannins and ripe black fruits, nothing in excess. Spice and fine acidity in the aftertaste show the wine has a good medium-term future. ~ 92 Wine Enthusiast

Solid density of fruit and velvety tannins to this one. Medium to full body, chewy tannins, and a fresh finish. ~ 92 James Suckling
