German Riesling is one of the most sought-after wines within professional wine circles. Sommeliers and wine aficionados hold high praise for this unique and food-friendly wine. Nicknamed the "naked grape" riesling perfectly captures the terroir and showcases the unique sense of place, unlike any other grape. This high-acid variety is one of the most versatile wines when paired with food.
Nestled in the heart of Niederhäusen, the Schneider estate spans 111 acres of vineyards, with 44 acres under their direct care. The geologically diverse soils, primarily volcanic rock and slate, provide a unique canvas for their wines.
Jakob Jr., armed with his expertise from Geisenheim and experience at Knoll in Austria’s Wachau, has introduced state-of-the-art innovations to the winery. The use of a new tank press, air-conditioned cellars, and a blend of traditional oak casks and stainless-steel tanks ensures that each bottle of Jakob Schneider wine is a harmonious blend of old-world charm and modern precision. The spontaneous fermentation process with natural yeast adds an extra layer of complexity, bringing out the wine's robust minerality.
Tasting Notes: 100% Riesling. A very light kind smokiness intertwined with ripe nectarine and white fruit. The palate is very crisp, sight and very straight, keeping the sweetness here very much in check. The overall profile is a delicate balance of smokey volcanic elements and white fruit – a delicious apero wine.
The dynamic interplay of stone fruit with salty and flinty minerality drives this sleek and precisely balanced Kabinett. So much drive and energy at the very long, super-vibrant finish. Excellent aging potential. Drink or hold. Screw cap. ~94 James Suckling
