Tenuta di Trecciano is a small producer located near Siena, Italy. The winery produces Super Tuscan Blends from international varietals including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. But, like much of Tuscany, the real star is the Sangiovese. The Trecciano estate is known for its traditional style Chianti and Tuscan wines. This 2010 Vin Santo is a classical and traditional take on Italy's "holy" dessert wine.
Trecciano oversees 50 acres of vineyards. The vines find in the soil of the Montagnola Senese the ideal environment to best express their characteristics, and the surrounding hills protect the vineyards from extreme climatic conditions. The cellar of Trecciano succeeds in perfectly combining the respect for the antique traditions with the requirements of the modern wine-making techniques.
The grapes are hand-harvested, spread on straw mats, and left to dry for at least 60 days. The juice is fermented in small oak barrels (caratelli), where it will be kept for at least 3 years. The wine is suitable for very long-term aging.
Aging: 3 years in small oak barrels
Tasting Notes: 50% Malvasia and 50% Trebbiano. The wine is a bright amber yellow, with caramel nuances. The nose is intense, ethereal, and fragrant, with hints of almond. The palate is dense and rich, full of raisins, almonds, and dried apricots. Excellent dessert wine, very good with dry cakes and Cantuccini, local typical biscuits.
