Spectacular 99-Point vintage: 2018 Meadowcroft Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon
Wine Enthusiast named the 2005 vintage of today’s wine a top 100 Cellar Selection, indicating it was one of the most collectible, age-worthy wines that its experts tasted in a given year. That was the 2005 vintage. Today, we’re offering the 2018 vintage, made from the same vineyard and the same winemaking team, but it has one thing the 2005 didn’t have, a99-point “spectacular” vintageaccording to Wine Spectator.
As you can imagine, the 2018 Meadowcroft Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon is an excellent wine. It’s produced with grapes grown at the Meadowcroft Wine’s Mount Veeder Vineyard in Napa in an AVA adjoining the cool, bayside Carneros benefiting from the cool influence of San Pablo Bay. The vineyard’s 1,200-foot elevation—plus sedimentary clay and volcanic soils, and extremely steep slopes typically above the fog line—create conditions that produce vines with tiny berries with intense flavor concentration and soft tannins.
We’re big fans of Meadowcroft Wines here at BHW, scooping up as many of the Sonoma-based winery’s offerings as we can because we want you to experience the wines from one of California wine country’s hidden treasures.Meadowcroft produces vineyard-specific, limited-releasewines that exhibit a regional backbone with European exuberance. Heralded by Bonfort's Wine & Spirits Journal as a top 100 Winery in 2019, this family-owned estate continues its stride toward one of the world's best, and this 2018 Cab is evidence.
Full of aromas of dark chocolate and ripe blue fruits, on the palate it's all blue fruits, black currant, and exotic black pepper. Along with an approving 91 points, James Suckling says it’s “round and fruity with a chewy yet fresh finish. Drink from 2023.” With 2023 just weeks away, this wine is ready for you to pop open now or hold on for another 5 or more years.
BHW is pleased to offer this Napa Cab from the 2018 99-point vintage at a very exciting 50% off. Single-vineyard Napa Cabs from the vintage can run well over $100 (and this wine usually does), but we have it for under $60—one of the best 2018 Napa values out there.
