2x 94pt Rothschild’s Chilean Cab: 2018 Escudo Rojo 'Origine' Cabernet Sauvignon
Right at the foot of the majestic Andes Mountains rage, you will find a one-of-a-kind region called Valle de Maipo, a valley that Wine Enthusiast referred to as “home to some of the country's top wines.” Especially the Cabernet Sauvignon, which is the “king of the place.”
But now, what happens when one of the most important families in the wine industry sets its eye on this amazing Valley? The answer is the 2018 Escudo Rojo 'Origine' Cabernet Sauvignon, aka, today’s spectacular wine offer!
“Escudo Rojo” (red shield) is the Spanish translation of the word in German “Roth Schild.” I’m guessing this name is starting to ring a bell right? That’s right, this winery’s owners are the same proprietors of Bordeaux 1st Growth Château Mouton Rothschild, Opus One, and Almaviva. This family refers to the “Escudo Rojo” winery as “a worthy heir of Baron Philippe de Rothschild in Chile.”
However, the owner's Family name is far from being the sole attribute this wine has to offer. The 2018 Rojo Cab is glorious, and there are multiple critics supporting my personal and professional opinion. James Suckling stated that this wine is “Floral and beautiful;” granting it a 94-point review. While Vinous media gave this gem 92 points describing it as “juicy & polished.”
Now, if you’re a Chilean wine lover, 2018 is a can't-miss vintage that should be added to your cellar. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate recognized the vintage greatness with a 96-point review. Vinous Media declared that it is “the second most productive harvest of the decade, delivering vivacious and expressive reds in Maipo.”
This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. The result is impressive. An elegant and refined wine, filled with aromas of strawberry, cherry, blackcurrant, and a subtle note of vanilla. Smooth and balanced acidity with fine, polished tannins.
We might not have the possibility to drink a First Growth wine any day of the week, but with today’s offer, we can have a taste of the wonders that this family can achieve, for only less than $33 a bottle!
