2x 91 Point Brunello: 2017 Colle Nero Tra Di Noi Brunello Di Montalcino DOCG

While chatting with a young server at a wine bar recently, the young man enthusiastically relayed his wine journey. When he talked about discovering Italian wines, his eyes lit up the most when he said “and then I had my first Brunello.” Certainly, his eyes lit up because he discovered what Wine Spectator says about Brunello: "If you want to understand what great Italian wine is all about, buy a bottle of Brunello. No wine in Italy matches Tuscany's Brunello di Montalcino when it comes to class and age-ability."

Knowing eyes will light up when they sip a Brunello we’ve carefully selected—like the 2017 Colle Nero Tra Di Noi Brunello Di Montalcino DOCG—is one of the reasons we do what we do here at BHW. The Colle Nero is a particularly special Brunello for us, and here’s why.

We are theexclusive importers of Colle Nero. This extremely limited and unique wine is crafted by Terre Nere, a family-owned and operated artisanal winery in the beautiful region of Montalcino. We made this wine for us, but it's our pleasure to be sharing it with you. It's called Tra di Noi, which means "between us."

The family winery in Tuscany is aflagship estate in the Montalcino region. Started several decades ago by Salvatore and Vincenza Vallone as a farm that raised cattle and produced cheese and olive oil, their son Pasquale led the family into wine in 1996. He purchased an additional 37 acres of land, planted vines, and with the help of his brother Gaetano, Terre Nere produced its first Brunello di Montalcino in 2002.

Terre Nere means “Black Land.” Its name comes from the black soil the vines grow in, close to Amiata, an extinct volcano. The Terre Nere teamharvests grapes manually, sometimes carrying out several harvests in order to obtain the perfect ripeness for each small plot that’s vinified individually. Thegrapes ferment spontaneously on indigenous yeast. The vineyard and wines areorganic certified.

This all culminates in a 100% Sangiovese Grosse wine thatrepresents the full expression of Sangiovese. It has amazing structure, elegance, and soft and silky tannins. It’s a powerful Brunello with ripe red fruits, light menthol notes, and hints of tobacco with perfectly balanced acidity.

While it will age beautifully, the2017 Brunello Di Montalcino vintage is not a super tannic vintage that will require years of aging to enjoy. You can enjoy this wine now or store it away and let it develop further.

We’re incredibly proud to bring you this exclusive wine at a significant discount—over 33%. It’s under $60, which is a fantastic price for a bottle that will help you “understand what great Italian wine is all about.”
