97 Point Vintage: 2015 Chateau Bellefont-Belcier Saint Emilion Grand Cru
Sandwiched between Château Pavie, and Château Le Tertre Rôteboeuf lies Château Bellefont-Belcier. This 95 point Grand Cru hails from one of the region’s flagship estates. Collectors, critics, and judges have applauded this estate since the late 1800s, and it has the distinction of earning the only gold medal awarded by the Ministry of Agriculture to Bordeaux wines during the Competition Agricultural General of Paris in 1892.
Wine lovers over the world (including those of us here at BHW) are clamoring for bottles from the excellent 97 point 2015 Bordeaux vintage. Saint-Emilion, according to Wine Spectator, took center stage in that lauded vintage. If you think that opportunities are long gone to find excellent bottles at approachable prices from the vintage and region, then you haven’t been hanging around BHW long enough! Today, for just $55, we have the 2015 Saint-Emilion that Vinous summed up like this: “In a Word: Terrific.”
Today, the winery continues to make wines of distinction, grown in their vineyard that has three distinct zones: the limestone plateau, the clay-limestone south coast, and the clay-sandy foot of the coast. Cab Sauv, Merlot, and Cab Franc thrive in these soils, and this Grand Cru has amazing complexity and finesse.
This Saint-Emilion Grand Cru is an outstanding buy. This level of quality at this price is almost impossible to find! Fresh and elegant, this Bordeaux will continue to evolve for at least 20 more years.
